JUST IN: The New Shire DOT Working To Safeguard Interstate 330
July 12, 2023 -
Moments ago, the New Shire Department Of Transportation announced that it would begin planning to implement safety guard rails on the side of the entire stretch of Interstate 330 and Interstate 890. The call was made to do so after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 330.
"The man killed this evening on Interstate 330, has raised enough flags, and it was time our agency took the appropriate steps to protect life and the New Shire Interstate system," said State DOT Secretary Maurice Lauder. "Enough is enough, it is time I took control of my department. The life lost today, is one too many."
Work to implement these safety barriers, will begin in little as 2 weeks. State Police officials say troopers will regularly patrol the Interstate to ensure no unauthorized entry onto the roadway occurs. Troopers are also observing a no-tolerance policy and are being directed to arrest anyone who violates the "remain off road directive."
Fatal Accident On Interstate 330
July 12, 2023 - Late this evening, the New Shire State Police received an Emergency call from a Resident of Rufus that a pedestrian had been struck on Interstate 330. Troopers responded to the call and found two people involved. The Driver, a 20-year-old, and the deceased victim and 25-year-old. The victim died after troopers arrived at the scene. The driver has been cooperating with our investigators.
State Police officials and the Rufus County Prosecutor say not charges will be filed against the driver, and says an inquiry into safeguarding the roadway from future similar incidents is currently underway.
"The New Shire Department Of Transportation needs to safeguard these highly dangerous roadways," said Governor Thomas Cooke. "Innocent lives are at stake here. It is not something we should ignore."
Texting And Driving Tickets Are Increasing To J800.00
July 11, 2023 -
The New Shire Department Of Transportation, State Lawmakers and the New Shire State Police have all announced the passage of the "Texting And Driving Ticket Price Increase" bill that was first introduced back in May. The bill is aimed at ending major texting and driving incidents across the state and the New Shire State Police says it is preparing its troopers to start issuing more tickets to prevent the loss of life.
"We have cracked down on texting and driving, but it is now nice to know that tickets will cost violators more," said Trooper Rachel Olardi. "As a trooper, I have seen dozens of fatal accidents due to texting and driving. It is serious, and dangerous. Our state is working towards 100% safe roads. This bill is welcome in my book."
Troopers say that they look forward to this bill being implemented. The bill will also issue severe penalties for repeat offenders. The bill will also have levels of violations.
"More lives will hopefully be saved and this is just incentive not to text and drive," said N.S.S.P Commissioner Lorenzo Marley. "The state has had too many people die from distracted driving. All preventable cases in fact."
